Different views on an ordinary life.
So back to the island vacation. One of our favorite spots was Starfish Beach, which had lots of starfish upon it. One of the days we were at the eponymous beach we, and by we I mean Bill, spotted a sea slug. I mean we weren’t sure initially if that’s what it was but aggressive post-incident googling confirmed it. Anyway it was seriously one of the most awesome experiences of my life, no hyperbole for real. I can’t even express it, I feel like my typing is monotone. I mean, there it was, so green and so boneless, just being a sea slug upon a rock. It had ruffly edges and honestly was a little suggestive in shape. At first I proposed that it was a Sea Lettuce or Sea Vulva but Bill did not think those were real things. I was all, you don’t even know all the animals so it totally could be either one of those things. He was all, mhrrrmmmm silence. I wanted to make sure the sea slug was ok so I found a finger shaped coral and poked it. It retracted itself slimily. I felt that showed responsiveness. Bill thought I should leave it alone but my concern was too great. Also I wanted to touch it.
As I was investigating the properties of the sea slug Bill was recording my science on his phone. Upon watching it later I felt both revulsion from hearing my own voice and also I cracked up. It was basically my stream of consciousness as I researched slug behavior and morphology. For your viewing pleasure:
Right at the end I was daring Bill to touch it, thinking that it might be poisonous. Really altruistic at heart, I am. But he’s bigger and more robust so poison wouldn’t affect him as much; it’s just science. And statistics.
